Activities & Athletics

Interscholastic Sports

Students benefit from opportunities to grow physically and intellectually through their experience in self-discipline and their contribution to team efforts made possible from competitive interscholastic sports activities.  The interscholastic athletic program of this district shall be considered as an extracurricular part of the total school program. The Board shall strive to achieve equity and variety with regard to the district’s athletic programs. It is the Board’s desire to engage as many students as possible in athletics and to offer programs that appeal to the district’s diverse student population. All interscholastic sports and clubs and participants must follow Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) policies and procedures.

Physical Examinations and Insurance

All students participating in grades 6-12 competitive athletics must have an annual physical examination, completed by a licensed medical doctor, at the student's expense or as provided by the Weld County Medical Society. Participation in athletics shall be contingent upon authorization from the examining physician.  Before any student will be permitted to participate in any school sports activities, they must show proof of insurance. This insurance must be purchased or a waiver must be presented that absolves the school district of any liability for accidents. A student insurance program may be provided by the school district.

Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship is a very important aspect of athletics.  We encourage all athletes, as well as all spectators, to show good sportsmanship at all athletic events.  Parents can show their appreciation for our athletes by cheering for their home teams and not against the opponent.  Showing good sportsmanship involves allowing the officials to officiate, coaches to coach, and players to play.

Greeley-Evas School District 6 Co-Curricular Participation & Eligibility Guidelines

Below are the rules and guidelines for student participation in co-curricular activities.  Students who choose to participate in co-curricular activities serve as leaders and role models for other students and as representatives of their school and the District to the wider community.  These rules and guidelines are intended to establish and encourage the commitment by participating students to conduct which is beneficial to their health, welfare and performance and which promotes the mission and purposes of District 6. These guidelines apply to ALL CHSAA sanctioned activities at both middle and high school.

Together with the Student Conduct and Discipline Code, these rules and guidelines allow for the systematic and consistent implementation of Weld County School District Six philosophies and policies.  Every student participating in co-curricular activities assumes the responsibility for their personal discipline required to follow these rules and guidelines.  Parents also pay an important part in their child’s participation in co-curricular activities and in enforcing their child’s compliance with these rules and guidelines.

All students who participate in co-curricular activities are expected to comply with the Student Conduct and Discipline Code.  Once the acknowledgement is properly signed, the student is subject to these co-curricular participation rules throughout the year, during all school years they are enrolled and eligible to participate. The accumulation of offenses resets when a student enters high school. In addition, sanctions may be imposed for serious and substantial violations, occurring at any time during the year, on or off campus, in or out of season, and where deemed appropriate while school is not in session:

Attendance for Competition or Practices

Because of the importance of regular attendance at school and the connection that attendance has with academic success of our students, the following guideline regarding student attendance and athletic/activity participation will be followed: a student must attend at least one-half of the classes they are registered in on the day of a contest in order to participate in that day’s event. Exception: if a student arranges with their coach and athletic director, at least one day prior to the scheduled event, an absence can be considered excused and not affect their participation.

Athletic Awards

During each season of competition, student athletes have the opportunity to earn a number of different school sponsored athletic awards at the completion of the athletic season and at the end of each school year.  Upon the completion of each season, student-athletes may be recognized with an Athletic Letter.  Coaches will review the specific criteria to earn a letter at the beginning of the season.  The end of the year athletic awards and the eligibility criteria for each award are listed as follows:

Award Qualifications:

Athlete of the Year: Senior Athletic Award

  • Must have a cumulative G.P.A of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must have lettered in a minimum of two sports.
  • Must have demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and personal conduct.
  • Must display appropriate behaviors and perform at high levels during athletic competition and in the classroom.
  • Must not be involved in any disciplinary action during the year, alcohol abuse, suspensions, sexual harassment, and gang activity.

Co-curricular Involvement Information

Co-curricular activities are a vital part of a Grizzly’s education.  It is our belief that students who participate in co-curricular activities receive a well-rounded education. These activities expand on what is learned in the classroom. Respect, teamwork, sportsmanship and developing a positive attitude towards school are some advantages of participating in co-curricular activities.  We encourage you to get involved at Northridge High School.

The purpose of extra-curricular activities is both educational and recreational. The programs at Northridge encourage participation by as many students as possible and are carried on with interest of the participant as the first consideration.
