WHAT IS MCJROTC?

The Northridge Community Support Request form should be filled out by any organization that requires Cadet support for their event. Ensure all portions are filled out, and the description box has as much detail as possible. Upon completion and review by the Northridge MCJROTC command, the requesting organization will receive confirmation that the request is approved or denied.

The below form must be completed 20 days before the event(s). Support requested for June - August needs to be in by April 30 due to the availability of the cadets during the summer months.

The Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program prepares high school students for leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. It provides instruction and rewarding opportunities which will benefit the student, the community, and the nation. JROTC teaches young men and women the kind of self-discipline, self confidence, and leadership skills that can help them successfully meet the challenges of adulthood. This program curriculum, taught by a retired Marine Officer and Enlisted, emphasizes citizenship, character development, leadership development and community service. Education classes introduce cadets to the elements of leadership, drill instruction and ceremonies, military customs, uniform inspections, physical fitness training, marksmanship, and military history. Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by community service activities, drill competitions, field trips & leadership camps, marksmanship training, and other extra-curricular activities. Cadets are required to participate in civic service, and they will wear a uniform once a week. The JROTC program is a strong opportunity not only for those who are interested in a career in the military, but for all students. Participation in the JROTC program includes the following benefits:

1) Growing into an informed and responsible citizen.

2) Character building through training in ethics, leadership, and self-discipline.

3) Exploration of possible career and educational opportunities after high school.

4) Learning about the elements and structure of national security and the U.S. military.

5) Developing strong relationships with fellow cadets.

INTEGRITY - Cadets set high standards of conduct and honesty, stressing strong moral development.

CHARACTER - The entire program is designed to build character. Teachers and parents often comment on the remarkable changes they observe in cadets.

SERVICE - Cadets are expected to give back in the form of community and school service.

GRADES - Cadets' grades are monitored in all courses, and when needed, Cadets are provided extra training in study skills and/or one-on-one tutoring with other Cadets.

LEADERSHIP - Junior Cadets learn leadership skills throughout the program and constantly observe senior Cadets in leadership roles. As they progress, they earn significant opportunities to apply and hone their own leadership skills in ever-increasing leadership roles.

CONFIDENCE - Cadets gain confidence through "hands-on" application of skills they learn. Their successes are noted and rewarded.

MOTIVATION - Junior Cadets are encouraged and motivated by senior Cadets to set and achieve high goals.

DISCIPLINE - Cadets are taught respect for authority and their fellow cadets. In addition, they develop skills to properly handle the authority they attain.

CHALLENGE - The program itself is very challenging and Cadets are encouraged to do their best in all they do.

TEAMS - Opportunity to become a member of elite teams - Drill, Color Guard, Rifle Marksmanship, Physical Fitness, and Academic. Participation on these teams is not mandatory.

FUN - Yes, fun! Summer Cadet Leadership Camps, activities and events throughout the year, day trips, the annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball, and more to help make being a Cadet a great experience.

Students have the opportunity to participate in a number of career pathways, including but not limited to the following areas: Agriculture, Alternative Cooperative Education, Business Education, Construction, Culinary Arts, Engineering Academy, Engineering Technology, Entrepreneurship, Family and Consumer Science, Fashion Design, Finance Pathway, Graphic Design, Health Services, Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Interior Design, Manufacturing (Advanced) Pathway, Marketing, Math & Science Academy, Multimedia, Performing Arts, Teacher Cadet, and Visual Arts. Participation in the District’s CTE programs are open for all students at no cost to the students/families, however some CTE programs have limited space or require successful completion of minimum prerequisite courses to be eligible.
